Nappies
Why use cloth nappies?
The range of Cloth nappies now available is very extensive. While many people continue to use flat towelling and flannelette squares with plastic pilchers, there are also a myriad of alternatives including fitted nappies, contoured nappies, all-in-one nappies, pocket nappies and more.
The new types of cloth nappies are
- convenient
- comfortable
- cost-effective and
- VERY cute!

Noonee Wilga Pocket Nappies
Noonee Wilga Pocket Nappies are trim-fitting and made of the softest fleece with concealed water-resistant layer. The outer fleece layer feels soft and stops wicking into other clothing while the inner layer of microfleece or suedecloth allows moisture to pass through it and retains little itself, thus providing a "stay dry" feel against the skin. Between these two layers is a space - or pocket - into which you can slip the absorbent layer of folded cloth or shaped booster. Ideal stuffing includes half a flat towelling nappy, a cotton teatowel or other specifically made padding such as hemp/cotton blends. You can add extra absorbency for when it is needed, such as over-night.
Pocket nappies dry quickly and after stuffing are simpler to put on than a disposible.
The price of Noonee Wilga Pocket Nappies is $20 each plus postage.

Noonee Wilga Fitted Nappies
Noonee Wilga Fitted Nappies are trim-fitting nappies made in newborn, small and medium sizes with soft flannelette fabric on the inside, concealed absorbent layers and an outer layer of towelling, vibrant fleece, velour, flannelette or other fabric in your choice.
Nappies with a towelling outer are simply closed with a Snappi, others are closed using hook-loop tape. Special fold-over coverings conceal the hooky side while washing to keep from getting a build-up of fluff in it.
These are not super-absorbent nappies and are ideal for use in conjunction with Elimination Communication. I recommend changing your baby each time he or she wets - because wet is uncomfortable. Just try spilling half a cup of lukewarm water in your lap and see how long it takes before you have to change your clothes!
The price of Noonee Wilga Fitted Nappies is $20 each plus postage.

Tips when using Cloth Nappies
* When you start to use cloth nappies, change often and give your baby plenty of nappy-free time. There is no reason to completely waterproof your child all the time. Baby urine is sterile, after all. Giving your baby nappyfree time allows greater freedom of movement.
* There is no need to use chemicals to soak your nappies. Place wet nappies in a bucket with a lid then every few days or more often according to your requirements. For dirty nappies, rinse or scrape any residues off and then place in the bucket with the rest.
* You can safely wash your nappies with the rest of your clothing, though be aware that the fabric of some nappies may shed more lint than others!
* Hot washing is not necessary. Use less than recommended washing powder and no fabric softeners or similar on your nappies. Hanging nappies to dry in the sunshine will remove any lingering stains.
* If you know that your baby is about to do a wee or a poo, then why not take off the nappy and hold him or her over the potty or a patch of grass? Read more about learning to communicate with your baby about his or her elimination needs here.
